Damage to squad car reminds motorists to drive safely

While assisting a motorist on Friday night, December 16th, a Marquette County Sheriff’s Office squad car was struck on I39 by a passing vehicle. The deputy was inside the squad car with emergency lights activated when the crash occurred. The deputy suffered minor injuries from the impact.

Accidents like this can be avoided. Wisconsin law requires drivers to shift lanes or slow down in order to provide a "safety zone" for a squad car, ambulance, fire truck, tow truck, utility vehicle, or highway maintenance vehicle that is stopped on the side of a road with its warning lights flashing. Do your part and help keep everyone safe on the roadways. (Marquette County Sheriff’s Office photo)
