Westfield students complete DARE course

Fifth grade students from Westfield Elementary completed the DARE program with Officer Doug Lloyd this spring.  Students learned about peer pressure, bullying, drugs and alcohol, vaping, and using the DARE decision making model to help guide them through situations they may encounter.  The program was completed last Friday where Officer Lloyd put on a DARE graduation ceremony.  At the ceremony, students, parents, other members of the Marquette County Sheriff's Department, and staff members cheered the kids on as they received their DARE completion certificates.  The fifth graders were asked to write an essay explaining what they had learned throughout the program.  The winners from Mrs. Showen's class were Abi A, Grant W, and Aleena K.  The winners from Mrs. Abraham's class were Mikaila W, Elijah P, and Mayzie S.  The audience enjoyed listening to these students read their essays aloud.  Everyone enjoyed pizza and root beer floats to celebrate. The fifth graders and their teachers would like to extend a huge thank you to Officer Lloyd for going above and beyond as their DARE officer.  Thank you to the Marquette County Sheriff's Department for making this essential program available to our kids. (Photos submitted)
