Montello’s annual Fish-N-Fun Festival returns May 2–4, offering a full weekend of family-friendly entertainment, outdoor activities, and community spirit. Downtown Montello and City Park will be bustling with a carnival operating all three days, alongside a food trucks and vendor fair, and live music performances.
Friday evening from 7 to 11 p.m., the high-energy cover band Best Practice will perform a variety of rock, pop, and country hits. On Saturday night, Road Trip will take the stage at 7:30 p.m., keeping the celebration lively.
Children’s activities will be plentiful throughout the weekend. A petting zoo will be open Saturday and Sunday in City Park. Birdhouse building and fly-tying lessons, sponsored by the Muirland Birding Club, will be available Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Vaughn Hall (while supplies last).
Tyke Hikes will depart from Vaughn Hall at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., and a kids casting contest will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Doty Street. The Montello PTO will sponsor a dunk tank on Saturday in City Park, while Narrow Road Ministries will distribute free kids’ goodie bags at 47 W. Montello Street between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Saturday’s schedule also includes a Kids Fishing Contest from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (registration at City Park), a car, truck, and cycle show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the American Legion, and a noon performance by the Prairie Thunder Cloggers downtown.
Youth anglers aged 15 and under are invited to try their luck at the trout pond in City Park on both Saturday and Sunday, while supplies last. Hourly raffles and an information booth will be available downtown on West Street.
Sunday’s events feature BINGO with cash prizes beginning at 1 p.m. in City Park and the popular Chicken BBQ starting at 11:30 a.m., served until gone.
Festival-goers are encouraged to purchase a Fish-N-Fun button for $5. Wearing the button at participating businesses grants access to exclusive specials, prize drawings, live music, and helps support the festival’s many free activities.
