The Spring general election takes place throughout Wisconsin on Tuesday, April 4th, highlighted by a very hotly contested race for Justice of the Supreme Court in Wisconsin between Janet Protasiewicz and Daniel Kelly. The primary for this race attracted a high turnout of voters and may do the same on Tuesday.
There are three statewide referendum questions on the ballot as well, one concerning a constitutional amendment regarding allowing the court to impose conditions of release before conviction. A second question asks about allowing the court to impose cash bail before conviction of a violent crime. Another is about the question of requiring able-bodied, childless adults to look for work in order to receive taxpayer-funded welfare benefits. The Town of Packwaukee has some contested races this year. There are four candidates running for Town Board Supervisor positions. Voters will select two from the following: Keith Bagley, Judi Nigbor, Adam Schuh and Karyn Niin Kitigade. There are two persons running for Town Clerk: Tara Sommersberger and Janny Slama. Chairperson and Treasurer are unopposed with Lance Achterberg and Jeri Showers respectively.
The Town of Westfield also has some contested races. Two persons are running for Town Board Chairperson: Sharon Galonski and Benji Braker. There are two candidates for Town Board Supervisor 1: Brian Wasson and John B. Bennett. Likewise, there are two candidates for Supervisor 2: Carol Golisch and Kenneth Bennett. Clerk and Treasurer positions are unopposed with Abby Riley and Debby Johnson, respectively.
In the City of Montello, all four incumbent alderpersons will be running unopposed on April 4th. Those include Ward 1 – Lucas Stelter, Ward 2 – Venise Mugler, Ward 3 – Ken Streich, and Ward 4 – Dennis Schrimpf.
The School District of Montello had only one seat coming up for election this year, that of incumbent Don Lloyd who was the only candidate to file for the upcoming ballot.
The School District of Westfield likewise will see only incumbents on its ballot. Nick Coenen represents the Town of Springfield and parts of New Chester and New Haven; Gerald Hebert II represents Village of Neshkoro and parts of Townships of Neshkoro, Marion and Dakota; and Tom Wastart represents Village of Oxford, Town of Oxford, and part of Jackson.
Most other local races are quiet this year, with little in the way of contested races on their ballots.
