Home ›Winter Returns to Marquette County... Again!

Signs of spring recently began to creep into Marquette County as warm weather melted snow and opened up the lakes. However, mother nature decided to remind Marquette County residents that winter wasn’t over just yet! The county was hit by a massive snowstorm that brought blizzard like conditions late Saturday through Monday. The US National Weather Service in Milwaukee reported that Montello received 15.2 inches of snow throughout the weekend. The rest of the county saw similar amounts of snow, with parts of northern Marquette County receiving closer to 20 inches.
The snow brought Marquette County to a standstill Sunday and Monday. School was cancelled across the county as residents worked to dig themselves out of the snow and the Marquette County Highway Department worked overtime to clear the roads. On Monday evening the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department reported that they had been able to remove most of the vehicles that had gone into the ditch during the storm, but also warned that high winds were causing snow drifts that were causing already cleared roads to drift shut. During their committee meeting on Tuesday, the Highway Department reported that they had been able to plow all county and township roads on Monday, and that they had gone back out early Tuesday morning to push back the snow even more. By Tuesday afternoon the wind had died down and the final bits of snow were cleared, hopefully bringing an end to our long winter season.
